A. Raza, Lokesh Tamilchelvan petitions suspended!

In this case, the candidature of A. Raza, the sitting MP and candidate of the Nilgiri Lok Sabha constituency, was suddenly suspended today. Along with him, AIADMK candidate Lokesh Tamilchelvan’s petition was also put on hold. In the context of continuous consideration of the nominations since morning, the sudden suspension of the nominations of the two has created a commotion in the area. Both petitions were accepted within hours.

Earlier, 33 people had filed their nominations to contest the Nilgiri Lok Sabha seat, while the nominations of BJP candidate L. Murugan and Nam Tamil candidate Jayakumar were accepted.

A. Raza, Lokesh’s nominations were put on hold… why were they accepted?

Both A. Raza and Lokesh have mentioned their caste name as Hindu in their nomination papers. While these nominations were considered in the presence of Election Officer Aruna, it was said that ‘caste name should not be used using the word Hindu’. Both the petitions have been put on hold as other candidates have also raised objections in the matter.

While it was informed that the decision would be reached after consideration by the higher election officials in Chennai, after consideration both the petitions were accepted.
