19 police officers were injured in riots after the match against Italy in the final of the UEFA European Football Championship in Great Britain. They were trying to stop a fight between fans, reported The Daily Express, citing the British police.
“Our police operations in the Euro 2020 final are coming to an end. Thanks to the tens of thousands of fans who showed good spirits and held themselves accountable. During the day we arrested 49 people for various offences,” the police wrote on Twitter.
The police explained that the main clashes took place near the Wembley stadium in London.
“Unfortunately, 19 of our officers were injured when they clashed with the volatile crowd. This is completely unacceptable,” said the police.
Earlier, after the Euro final, England‘s black footballers were subjected to racial insults.
