Ford has announced that it will close its car factory in the Maraimalai Nagar area of Chengalpattu district from next July. This was followed by negotiations between the factory workers, the factory management and the government.
In this situation a new form was issued to the workers from this morning. In that form ‘We are working in the factory but will not engage in any struggle. We ensure that we work within the factory in compliance with all legal provisions brought under management. Workers have refused to accept this form. The 2,000 workers who came to work yesterday at midnight alone are currently inside.

Workers who had been on shift work since this morning were not allowed inside. Employees have been engaged in a waiting struggle against the factory as they have been told they will only be allowed inside if they fill out this form. Similarly, workers say negotiations between workers and management are taking place at turtle speed as the factory closes.
