22 people have been found dead after a mine collapsed in northwest Tanzania. An emergency services spokesman said on Sunday that the mine collapsed on Saturday after heavy rain. The rescue operation could only begin late after the accident – on Sunday morning – due to a lack of equipment.
According to the information, the mine had already been closed by the operator for safety reasons before the collapse. However, it is not unusual for young men in the region to dig for gold sand in the closed mines.
