The United Nations announced that dozens of civilians were killed and hundreds injured following clashes between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces in the city of El Fasher in Sudan.

According to the Sudanese Al-Mashhad website, the United Nations Office for Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said: “Unconfirmed reports indicate that at least 27 people were killed, including women and children, while about 130 people were injured.”

The office indicated, “The city’s main hospital has exceeded its maximum capacity of 100 beds.”

The city of El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur state, is witnessing violent confrontations between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces, and the confrontations led to the displacement of about 850 people.

The United Nations recently warned “of dire consequences for civilians residing in El Fasher,” and said: “About 800,000 people in El Fasher are exposed to severe and imminent danger, with the worsening violence and the threat of storming the city.”

It is noteworthy that since April 15, 2023, an armed conflict has been taking place between the Sudanese army, led by Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, and his former deputy, Commander of the Rapid Support Forces, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo “Hemedti.”
