MADRID, 1 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Moroccan authorities have announced the arrest of 30 people, including 18 members of the security forces and several health workers, for their alleged involvement in a baby trafficking ring in the city of Fez.

The arrests were carried out between Tuesday and Wednesday by the regional brigade of the Fez Judicial Police for the alleged involvement of the suspects in acts of blackmail, threats, manipulation and trafficking of babies, as reported by the Moroccan state agency of news, MAP.

Investigations to date reveal that among those detained there are several people who would have acted as intermediaries in the sale of babies from single mothers to families who wanted to adopt children, for which they demanded payment of various amounts of money.

Sources cited by MAP have indicated that among those detained there are also several people who have committed acts of blackmail against patients and relatives in exchange for appointments for consultations, diagnoses and intermediation in illegal abortions and the issuance of false medical certificates.

In this sense, they have also indicated that several of the detainees would be involved in acts of usurpation of public functions, manipulation of medical appointments, theft and embezzlement of medical supplies and medications for sale.

The raids carried out in the homes of several of the agents supposedly involved in these activities have made it possible to find medications that are provided only by prescription, some that cannot be sold, medical supplies and various amounts of cash.
