3,000 policemen are engaged in security work in Saragham, Salem city ahead of Republic Day.
The intelligence department has warned that there is a possibility of an accident ahead of the Republic Day. As a result, the police conducted raids with sniffer dogs in public places including hotels, hostels and bus stands in major cities including Salem last night. A list of suspects was prepared and interrogated.
Since yesterday afternoon, 1,000 in Salem city, 500 each in Salem district, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri and Namakkal, 3,000 policemen are engaged in security work at important places.
Salem Railway Junction platforms, trains and tracks were searched by the sniffer dog ‘Brooks’ of the Railway Security Force. Passengers were admitted after ‘metal detector’ check.
