Watan Al-Youm: The Director of UNRWA in Lebanon, Dorothy Claus, said that 400 homes were destroyed due to the clashes in Ain El-Hilweh camp, stressing that the situation in the camp is still unstable.
During her participation via videoconference in a press conference today in New York, Klaus spoke about the effects left by the armed clashes that broke out on July 30 and lasted for nearly a week.
It reported that the hostilities prompted hundreds of families to flee, and some of them had already returned to the camp, expecting that the clashes had resulted in the destruction of between 200 and 400 homes inside and around the camp.
She stated that an UNRWA school compound that accommodates more than 3,000 children was “violated,” and other United Nations facilities, including other schools and a health center, were damaged, declaring that “we are still unable to reach all areas of the camp completely.”
She explained that the agency has resumed its operations in 50% of the camp areas, where one health center has reopened, adding that they have collected garbage, disinfected and removed rubble.
