Dubai: The RTA has announced that 4,000 self-driving robotic taxis will run on city highways in five years. By 2030, more than 25% of vehicles will switch to self-driving driverless technology. A large number of new vehicles are being prepared, officials said.

RTA Chairman Mathar Al Thayer said at the Dubai International Project Management Forum at the Expo that the US company had already signed a landmark agreement with Cruise to run robot taxis. Dubai will become the first city outside the US to run a robot taxi. Cruise is a joint venture between General Motors and Honda. Traffic regulations will be revised ahead of the expansion of self-driving vehicles. Further adjustments will be made. Another benefit is that it eliminates carbon pollution, which is a major environmental challenge. The e-van, a modified version of the e-scooter, will also be expanded to include hydrogen vehicles and electric vehicles. Charging stations will be opened in all major areas to charge electric vehicles. With the advent of driverless vehicles operating on artificial intelligence, the transport sector will be completely smart.

The first phase of the Abu Dhabi-Dubai 150 km route, 10 km, is expected to be completed in the near future.
