Sheikh Hasina International Cricket Stadium in Purbachle is a dream project of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). BCB’s self-financed mega project is progressing slowly.

BCB took several effective decisions in the ninth board meeting on February 12. In this meeting, BCB Chief Executive Nizamuddin Chowdhury highlighted the design of various parts of the stadium, the facilities and the space reserved for 5 federations.

After the presentation, several directors of BCB asked the 5 federations to reconsider the allocation of space at the Sheikh Hasina Stadium.

A director related to RisingBD said, “We think that if another federation is given space here, there may be various kinds of trouble or conflict in the future.” At that time, a proposal was also made to buy separate land for the federation.

BCB President Nazmul Hasan Papon agreed to such a proposal of the director in the board meeting. Apart from this, Papon himself has taken responsibility to resolve the issue by discussing with the concerned federations.

The board finalized the allotment of places to 5 federations as per the previous decision. The 5 federations are Chess, Judo, Karate, Weightlifting and Billiard-Snooker.

Meanwhile, a ‘Project Monitoring Cell’ has been formed to monitor the progress of the Sheikh Hasina Stadium. The board has also approved this 5-member cell made up of BUET experts. Apart from the project monitoring cell, the board has approved the appointment of reputed foreign project management company.

BCB initially shortlisted two Australian companies to build the stadium last year. Populus Architecture was chosen from there. The other firm was Cox Architecture. Both companies have experience in building the world’s largest stadiums. The construction work of the stadiums of the Olympics and football World Cup has been done by two companies. BCB finalizes Populus after seeing everything.

The operation of the stadium started in 2018. The boat-like design was released in 2019. The goal of completing the stadium in 2023 has already been exceeded. It will be known when the stadium will be ready only after the final work starts.
