The results of the survey represent an increase of 33 points compared to the response to the same question asked in October 2019.
More than two thirds of Chileans (76%) support the idea of deploying the military to the streets to help with public order tasksas revealed by the latest Criteria survey.
According to the survey, support for this measure is based on the fact that Citizens believe that the presence of the military “would intimidate vandals and reduce social disorder”.
76% support for the proposal represents an increase of 33 points compared to the response that citizens provided to the same question in October 2019, in the midst of a social outbreak. On that occasion support for the idea only reached 42%
On the other hand, the Criteria survey revealed that 85% of those surveyed agree with reinforcing the presence of Carabineros in the streetswhich represents an increase of 28 points compared to what was recorded four years ago.
Furthermore, the 46% support the introduction of curfewswhich implies an increase of nine points compared to 2019.
At once, 59% of those surveyed agreed with asking the Army to take to the streets to take charge of social control.
Support for Boric and presidential race
The latest Criteria survey showed that Support for the management of President Gabriel Boric remains at 30%, the same one he showed last March. While, disapproval did not change either and remains at 56%.
Where there were changes is in the presidential race, since although the mayor of Providencia, Evelyn Matthei continues to lead it, now she does so with 27% supportfour points less than the previous edition of the study.
The Republican is further back José Antonio Kastwho also fell two points, standing at 15% support.
Presidential preferences continue with the former president Michelle Bachelet (7%); the minister spokesperson, Camila Vallejo (6%); former presidential candidate Franco Parisi (3%); the minister of the interior Carolina Tohá (2%)and the deputy Johannes Kaiser (2%).
