A lioness traveling in the back of a pick-up truck in South Africa slipped away from the moving car and was prowling in the northwest of the country, about 400km from Johannesburg, on Thursday, local authorities alerted .
At the wheel of the car, the owner of the two beasts did not notice anything until he stopped for a routine check on Wednesday around noon.
Going to take a look at the felines he was to drop off that day in an animal reserve in the region which is rich in them, he realized that the lioness had disappeared, told AFP Jerry Matebesi, spokesperson for the provincial department responsible for conservation.
On Thursday, the South African authorities were still actively looking for the big cat, supported by a helicopter.
The neighborhood has been warned not to “attempt to capture the lion” but rather to call the authorities if anyone sees it, Matebesi said.
