Artist Boris Zhutovsky dies

Soviet and Russian artist, illustrator, writer Boris Zhutovsky died at the age of 90. This was announced on social networks by political scientist Arkady Dubnov. He lived and worked in Moscow.

Zhutovsky was a participant in the famous exhibition “30 Years of the Moscow Union of Artists” in the Manege in December 1962, which was criticized by Nikita Khrushchev. Then Zhutovsky had a personal scandal with Khrushchev and the opportunity to participate in exhibitions in the USSR was closed for him. After Khrushchev’s resignation, he apologized to Zhutovsky.

At the same time, the artist’s works were shown in galleries and museums around the world, and in Moscow at semi-legal exhibitions.

The artist is the author of the famous portrait series of outstanding representatives of the USSR and Russia of the 20th century “The Last People of the Empire”.
