It is in an unprecedented commitment and head-on struggle in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, to improve the lives of all and offer hope for a better future than hundreds of thousands of baskets. food were distributed to vulnerable populations, targeting in particular itinerant vendors as well as the entertainers of the famous Jemaa Al Fna square, storytellers, dancers, snake charmers without forgetting to meander the small alleys of the Medina and knock on the doors of poorer houses. Soroptimist has surpassed itself in a very broad movement of solidarity led by extraordinary women during and after the pandemic. During the lockdown, dozens of civil society initiatives in Morocco helped the government better manage the pandemic.
In terms of food security, health and in the field of solidarity, women play a fundamental role and demonstrate that female leadership represents major assets for a better future. Since the creation of Soroptimist in Marrakech in 2000, important social actions have been carried out around primary and secondary education, with unprecedented support for rural women as well as in urban areas, repairs of water supply in certain villages which had seen their local source dry up, as well as quite a few school toilet blocks in certain remote areas.
Touria Binebine is Mother Teresa of Marrakech, who is involved in a grandiose humanitarian project of the Club Marrakech-founder for the benefit of the education of young girls from rural areas with no school near their village and forced to stay in the House.
The construction of a boarding school for the benefit of these young girls is born with a capacity of nearly 200 girls, on an area of 6000 m², including 8 dormitories, 10 bathrooms, a library with two study rooms and multimedia , a medical and dental care unit, not to mention a spacious refectory, storage rooms, plus two cold rooms, lingerie, laundry room and administrative offices in addition to a caretaker’s lodge.
Touria Binebine continues her fight every day to improve the lives of women and young girls in precarious situations in particular and of all deprived citizens (women, men, children) including sub-Saharan families.
In this context, the founder of the Club SI Marrakech Fondateur declared: “The boarding school, which aims to be an institution of excellence, also offers them an academic and socio-cultural framework intended to help them acquire knowledge and life skills.
Our motto being that there is no small donation. Every gesture, every look, every visit to the boarding school has given our young girls an opening to the world and the promise of a hitherto unhoped-for future”.
And to add: “It is in the smiles of all these kids that I draw my energy because I know that tomorrow, they too will have the mission of transmitting what they are learning today at school.
Leading according to the principles of women fighters is about redefining the concepts of value and success, sharing power and credit for success, building community and building relationships, and ultimately addressing the causes of the establishment oppressive structures and social norms that impede progress for all, including women and girls”.
