On May 20 in Moscow, as in other cities of Russia, the annual action “Night of Museums” will take place. Last year, events prepared in the capital specifically for the cultural event were attended by 309,000 people. In this, according to the head of the Moscow Department of Culture Alexander Kibovsky, no less is expected. You can visit more than 100 sites for free (but by prior registration), including not only museums, but also libraries. However, the emphasis will be placed on going beyond the museum — into the urban space, where there is also a lot of cultural “stuffing”. 16 well-known people – stars in their field, whether it’s theater, mathematics or biology – will conduct their author’s tours of Moscow.

“Night of Museums for us is not only a program of events, but a way to take stock of the year,” says Alexander Kibovsky, head of the Moscow Department of Culture, at a press conference dedicated to the action. — Moscow is on confident positions. 1237 exhibitions were held in the capital last year, that is, three or four projects were opened daily. The main thing is that visitors come back – we fix that the same people come the second and third time. As for the Night of Museums, last year 309,000 people attended the action in Moscow, I am sure that this year there will be no less.

Museum Night starts at 7 pm and runs until 2 am. Moreover, it is not necessary to go to the center – each district of Moscow will have its own program. The Museums of Moscow will become the central platform. The complex on Zubovsky Boulevard will open for free visiting already existing projects, including the exhibitions “House of Models. Image industry”, “Petrov-Vodkin. Lomakin. Element Crimea” and exposition of tiles, special events will be held everywhere. And in the courtyard of the complex on Zubovsky there will be a lecture on architecture by local historian Denis Romodin and a poetic program from actor Artem Kukushkin, and at 20.00 a film about the Soviet fashion industry will be shown.

But cultural life will be in full swing at the other five sites of the museum association. Star tours will be the highlight of the program in different parts of the city. One of them will be hosted by actress Ekaterina Klimova, visiting her favorite theatrical places in Moscow. The other is mathematician Alexei Savvateev: he will tell about his Izmailovo district. Elena Krizhevskaya is the winner of the photo exhibition “Best of Russia-2016”, the author of the books “Architectural Moscow. Guide to buildings and styles” and “Moscow from the inside. Luxurious interiors and architectural stories” will show its photogenic capital, it will guide everyone from the oldest skating rink at the Dynamo to the Hermitage Garden. Vyacheslav Dubynin, Doctor of Biological Sciences, writer, neurophysiologist and leading researcher at the Department of Human and Animal Physiology of the Faculty of Biology of Moscow State University, will take a personal route from the Trinity Tower of the Kremlin to Povarskaya Street and tell how the architecture of Gothic buildings is connected with the structure of the human body.

In total, there will be 16 such star tours as part of the Night of Museums. One of them starts from the Scriabin Memorial Museum, which, in addition to the author’s route of pianist Ekaterina Mechetina along the Arbat lanes, promises a large street exhibition on the main pedestrian street of Russia and an enchanting light show in the multimedia hall Museum, which will begin at 23:00 and end deep after midnight.

Alexander Kibovsky noted that a special event of the current “Night of Museums” will be the opening of a renewed exposition of the recently restored grotto in the Kuskovo estate, which was built under Catherine the Great. The pavilion, which took three years to restore, is now once again decorated with unusual seashells from around the world. Many of them are listed in the Red Book. In the interior, you can find 24 types of tropical sea shells (Mediterranean and Black Seas, Indian, Atlantic and Pacific Oceans), among them such rarities as “common turritella”, “ton helmet”, “pelican leg”, “abalone” and “ pictorial pearl. On the afternoon of May 20, furniture and sculptures in the form of shells, decorated with corals and mother-of-pearl, will appear in the grotto. Quite recently, it was possible to find analogues of the lost interior, so the Night of Museums will host the premiere of an unusual space that has no analogues in our country.
