► A Russian-American journalist detained in Moscow
A Russian court on Monday ordered pre-trial detention “until December 5” of journalist Alsu Kurmasheva, arrested last week, becoming the second American reporter detained in the country, Russian news agencies said.
The Sovetsky Court of Kazan, in the Tatarstan region, indicated that it had thus validated the request of the investigators who arrested the journalist on Wednesday, accusing her of breaches linked to her registration in the register of “foreign agents” while she was engaged in “the intentional collection of information regarding military activities” could be harmful to “the security of Russia”.
Alsu Kurmasheva, who works for the American media Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL), risks up to five years in prison. She is the second American journalist to be arrested in Russia in 2023. Evan Gershkovich, reporter for the Wall Street Journal, was arrested on March 29 while reporting and is still detained in Moscow.
► The Ukrainian army resists but the situation is “difficult” in Avdiïvka
Ukrainian positions remain “protected” around the disputed town of Avdiïvka in the east, but the situation is « difficile » because Russian forces are carrying out numerous assaults, the Ukrainian president said on Sunday.
“The areas of Avdiïvka and Marinka are particularly difficult. Numerous attacks by the Russians. But our positions are protected”and assured by Volodymyr Zelensky.
Avdiïvka, an industrial city, has been targeted in recent weeks by intense attacks by Russian troops, who seek to surround it. On Friday, the Ukrainian army said it had once again repelled a Russian offensive, claiming to have inflicted “catastrophic losses” to the opponent.
► Six dead in a strike in Kharkiv
At least six people were killed and 17 injured on Saturday by Russian missile attacks on a postal depot in the Kharkiv region in northeastern Ukraine, local officials reported on Sunday.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky shared a video on social media of what appears to be a badly damaged warehouse next to debris and a container bearing the logo of Ukrainian postal operator Nova Poshta.

The six people killed and the injured were “employees of the company who were inside the Nova Poshta terminal”indicated the governor of the Kharkiv region, Oleg Sinegoubov. “The victims, aged 19 to 42, were injured by shrapnel and blast (from the explosions)”he added.
