In Guinea, the trial of the massacre of September 28, 2009 resumed this Monday, November 13, 2023, nine (9) days after the commando operation which extracted four of the accused from prison, including the former head of state Moussa Dadis Camara. Three of the accused, including Dadis Camara, were recaptured the same day, November 4, while one of them, Colonel Claude Pivi, is still on the run. When the trial resumed this Monday morning, the lawyers, the public prosecutor and the court discussed in particular this attack on the central house of Kaloum.

The trial of September 28, 2009 resumed on November 13, 2023 in Conakry, Guinea. This is the first hearing since the attack on the Kaloum central house on November 4. Moussa Dadis Camara, Claude Pivi, Blaise Goumou and Tiegboro Camara who had gotten into the habit, in the box, of sitting together on the same bench, were exfiltrated from their cell on November 4. When their trial reopened, the place of the fugitive Claude Pivi remained empty.
The court having finished hearing the victims, these are the witnesses who were heard this Monday morning, which should allow the trial to take a new step. The first of the witnesses to appear was Tibou Kamara, Dadis’ former communications minister. He, however, remained silent. The defense lawyers then asked to speak. First, it was Maître Cherif, Claude Pivi’s counsel, who indicated that “ one of the accused is absent in this room (…) My client will not be able to wait for witnesses to prepare his defense “, he explained before consequently asking for the trial to be postponed.
The public prosecutor considered that the argument was not admissible, the trial should continue. According to him, Claude Pivi was present at this trial for more than a year and was able to follow the proceedings until then. In addition, several lawyers, both for the defense and for the civil parties, highlighted the security risks of this trial. Dadis’ lawyer threatens to suspend his participation if measures are not taken to ensure the protection of the lawyers. The hearing was suspended around 11:20 a.m. local time to allow the court to rule on the lawyers’ various requests.
