A team from the Burkinabè Agency for Standardization, Metrology and Quality (ABNORM) met, through a workshop, with socio-economic actors in the town of Tenkodogo in the Center-East region, the November 24, 2023. The goal is to make them aware of the regulations relating to prepackaged products.

Raising awareness among producers on the laws and standards regarding prepackaged products is the objective of the workshop convened by the Burkinabè Agency for Standardization, Metrology and Quality (ABNORM), on Thursday, November 24, 2023 in Tenkodogo.
Created with the aim of supporting socio-economic actors, ABNORM operates at the national and African levels as well as at the level of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). Its missions include, among other things, the implementation of the national standardization policy, standardization and certification.
On the standard, the director of quality promotion, Goougounga Jinette Cyrille, believes that it is an essential basis because it takes into account the title of the form, the scope of application, the description, the contaminants, the hygiene, weight and measurement, etc.
Standards are of capital importance in the sense that they help producers to have access to the economic market and to technical documents, according to the director of quality promotion. At the consumer level, they help with customer satisfaction, health protection, etc., she specifies. At the state level, standards make it possible to clean up the market, improve the competitiveness of national companies and limit or even remove technical obstacles during national trade, adds the director.
As for certification, it certifies after independent and impartial verification that a product or service meets one or more standards. Certifications are of several types and help establish market transparency, trust, etc., faith of ABNORM.
According to the ABNORM team, to establish a pre-packaged water production unit, documents such as authorization for installation, production and consumption must be provided beforehand. And to add that in the event of non-compliance with these provisions, sanctions are provided ranging from the seizure of equipment to prison sentences.
And to encourage producers, a competition called “The Burkinabè Quality Prize” is organized to promote the quality and performance of public and private organizations.
