INADES is organizing a fair to promote production from family farming in Dédougou

On the sidelines of the national week of city-country solidarity, the African Institute for Economic and Social Development (INADES) organized a fair for the benefit of stakeholders in the agricultural world, on Saturday December 1, 2023 in Dédougou. Coming from different localities in Burkina Faso, the exhibitors responded to the call. The objective was to promote accessibility of rural products to urban ones.

“Millet: what contribution to sufficient, healthy and sustainable food in a context of climate change? », This is the theme of the 2nd edition of the fair held on December 1, 2023 in Dédougou at Melon Gare.

This fair was an opportunity given to populations to better understand products from family farms, especially those from rural areas. The different products resulting from the processing of cereals, namely biscuits, croquettes and donuts, were exhibited. Indeed, the fair was held as part of the National Town and Country Week of 2023.

The first vice-president of the special delegation from the commune of Dédougou, Buenis Charles Coulibaly, congratulated the organizers. “We congratulate the organizers of the solidarity week for the reflection and experience-sharing component integrated into the running of the event. We would like to express our gratitude to the initiators of this important event to promote family farming,” he noted.

Honoré Millogo, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Inades, explained that this week’s organization aims to contribute to the development of territorialized and sustainable food systems based on sovereignty food and resilience to climate change.

“This week was punctuated by experience-sharing workshops, radio broadcasts and this great fair for the discovery and consumption of local products,” he declared. The president of the Burkina daily worker cooperative, Christine Yaméogo, stressed that many exhibitors came to show their know-how in the field of processing local products.

“This fair is a good thing for us who are engaged in grain processing. We invite people to consume local products to stay healthy,” he noted.

The appointment has been made for the 3rd edition of the fair to promote production from family farming in 2024. As a reminder, the initiative of the Town-Country Solidarity Week is part of the decade guidelines for family farming adopted by the United Nations General Assembly for the period 2019-2028.

It constitutes an opportunity for several territorial development actors to meet to discuss the issues and challenges of food systems. In addition, INADES training is a support structure for development initiatives that technically supports stakeholders in the family farming sector from production to processing and including monitoring and the creation of a framework for sales.
