The most popular media used by children aged 0 to 18 is television, followed by smartphones and console games. This is according to a CEM sociological survey on the topic of what media platforms children use, conducted between November 6 and 19 last year by “Owl Harris”.

According to the data presented, 96% of children aged 0 to 18 watch television, 83% use a smartphone, tablet or computer and 11% play console games.

On average, at 2 years and 6 months, children started watching TV, and mostly from 12 to 3 p.m. By the way, BNT assured that they will include more educational shows in their program precisely in this range.

Quite rightly, parents choose what content their children watch when they are 0 to 2 years old or 3 to 5 years old – then parents control the content. Nearly 51% of them know what content they play to their children.

“Because they learn new things” is the most common reason parents give their children TV. Reasons like “to calm down” and “to have fun” follow.

Children from 0 to 5 years old mostly watch TV, and those from 6 to 18 years old mostly use smartphones.

The average age at which they start using an electronic device is 5 years and 9 months. The earliest children start using the smartphone, and the latest – a computer.

8 years is the average age at which children already have their own smartphone, otherwise they spend an average of 2 hours and 45 minutes using it.

27% of children use a computer every day, and the average time they spend in front of the monitor is 2 hours.

The study shows that most often children use their mobile devices to watch videos, followed by watching movies and series, and in third place – to use social networks. First they visit youtube, then tiktok and thirdly Vbox.

The conclusion of the study is that, regardless of gender, place of residence or the level of education of the parents, children between the ages of 13 and 18 have relatively identical preferences for platforms and social networks.

To write and chat with their friends, children most often use Viber, followed by Messenger and third by WhatsApp.

Music videos are the most

The content that children mostly watch on media platforms are music videos, followed by tiktok videos and in third place – movies or series on online platforms.

11% of children play console games, on average they start at 9 years and 6 months. On average, they play for 1 hour a day, mostly because they have fun or are bored.

The study also shows that children most often see content with violence, sex, nudity, alcohol and cigarettes while watching television. Then there are the console games and finally the videos in the online platforms. The conclusion is that parents are not sufficiently aware of the content their children consume.

According to parents, the media content their child consumes most helps them develop social skills, followed by creativity, and most harms their physical activity.

A study was also done on when children read books and only 13% of them read for pleasure, most percentages are for those who read out of obligation.
