The Russian Deputy Representative to the United Nations, Dmitry Polyansky, announced that the establishment of an independent Palestinian state is a necessary condition for achieving peace in the Middle East.
Polyansky said during a session of the United Nations General Assembly, “What is happening in the Gaza Strip clearly confirms what we have been warning about for many years, which is that large-scale confrontations and acts of violence will inevitably be repeated in the region until we can, through joint efforts, eliminate the cause of This conflict has been ongoing for years, meaning achieving the mission of establishing a Palestinian state in accordance with the resolutions of the UN Security Council and the UN General Assembly.”
He continued: “The Palestinians must use their right to establish a state within the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. Only such a fair position based on international law can lead to achieving stable peace in the region.”
The diplomat pointed out that the stalemate in the Middle East settlement “resulted from the United States’ attempts to monopolize mediation efforts and its endeavor to activate its narrow interests.”
He added that Russia always calls for “a stable negotiation process on the platform agreed upon by the United Nations, which must lead to the establishment of a sovereign Palestinian state.”
He stressed that Russia is “ready to continue constructive contacts with all parties concerned.”
He added, “It is necessary above all to stop the bloodshed and prevent the conflict from expanding so that it does not include the entire region. Otherwise, this conflict will never end.”
