Creating an offshore wind farm is also an important task. The county decided to build five offshore wind power complexes with a power generation capacity of 1.96GW off the West Sea, and received power generation business permits for Taean Offshore Wind Power in 2021, Gaeui Offshore Wind Power (2023), and West Sea Offshore Wind Power (2024). It was selected as the target site for a public-led large-scale offshore wind power support project in 2021, and a project cost of 4.35 billion won was secured.
Tours of advanced areas and resident briefing sessions to secure resident acceptance are also being promoted continuously, and the ‘Taean-gun New and Renewable Energy Development Profit Sharing Ordinance’ to share new and renewable energy development profits has been promoted since last year and is scheduled for deliberation by the county council in May.
Designation of an offshore wind renewable energy integration complex is also being promoted. This is designated by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy to ensure acceptance by residents and prevent reckless development. Local governments that are proactively pursuing new and renewable energy power generation projects exceeding 40 MW can apply and receive government subsidies when designated.
The county is continuing consultations with residents and related organizations, including forming a public-private council for designation, and plans to submit an application for designation of an integrated complex to the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy in October of this year. The financial resources secured upon designation will be used for welfare projects for local communities and residents.
