Dong-A Pharmaceutical announced on the 26th that its acne treatment ‘Acnon Cream’ sold over 2 million units last year, ranking first in sales in the external acne treatment market for two consecutive years. It is assessed that Acnon Cream is leading a new revival in the market.

Acnon Cream is a pimple and acne treatment launched by Dong-A Pharmaceutical in July 2020. The main ingredients are said to be ibuprofen piconol, which has an anti-inflammatory effect and inhibits the production of lipolytic enzymes by acne bacteria, and isopropylmethylphenol, which has antibacterial effects and prevents the growth of acne bacteria. Dong-A Pharmaceutical explained that it contains about three times more isopropyl methyl phenol than existing pimple and acne treatments, helping to treat red and purulent acne.

An official from Dong-A Pharmaceutical said, “Due to the endemic disease, the use of masks has decreased and the demand for acne treatments has increased as skin care effects spread by word of mouth.” He added, “Acnon Cream led the market last year with sales increasing by about 99% compared to the previous year. “I did it,” he said.

Analysis suggests that lineup diversification also contributed to its popularity. Dong-A Pharmaceutical launched ‘Acrine Gel’, a treatment for millet acne (non-inflammatory acne), last year to respond to the increasing demand for acne treatments. It is a gel-type formulation containing 2% salicylic acid and tea tree oil, so it can be used hygienically and is convenient to store. Following Noscanagel and Acnon Cream, which are popular products in the acne treatment field, sales of Acrine Gel are said to be increasing.

A Dong-A Pharmaceutical official said, “Dong-A Pharmaceutical external skin products are receiving a lot of love from consumers, leading to a new revival,” and added, “We will continue to strive to introduce products that can easily resolve acne concerns in daily life.”
