Taean-gun is accelerating the creation of a future clean energy city. Taean-gun is making all-out efforts to discover alternative energy industries for thermal power plants and realize energy welfare for the county residents, led by the Future Energy Department, which was newly established this year.

On the 24th, the county held a regular briefing with the Future Energy Department at the county office briefing room, making multifaceted efforts to create a ‘future clean energy city’ such as minimizing the negative impact on the local economy due to the abolition of coal-fired power plants, transitioning to the new and renewable energy industry, and expanding city gas supply. He announced that he would step forward.

This is to effectively respond to the ‘National Carbon Neutral Green Growth Basic Plan’ that the government is promoting to reduce greenhouse gases and carbon emissions. In Taean-gun, Taean Thermal Power Plant Units 1 to 6 are scheduled to be phased out by 2032, resulting in approximately 3,000 There are concerns about a decline in the residential population and a decrease in tax revenues.

Accordingly, the military will invest 2.5 billion won from Chungcheongnam-do’s ‘Just Transition Fund’ from 2022 to 2025 to provide capacity-building training for coal-fired power plant workers and develop and develop a ‘K-Marine Nordic Walking Program’ linked to the marine healing industry. We are pursuing job creation projects, including efforts to foster professional manpower.

In addition, in the future, we will continue to discover projects that fit the local situation among nine types of projects, including △ analysis of the regional impact of energy conversion △ employment stability and job conversion △ fostering the new and renewable energy industry △ attracting companies and supporting small business owners, to ensure efficient operation of the just transition fund. The policy is to work hard.

Creating an offshore wind farm is also an important task. The county decided to build five offshore wind power complexes with a power generation capacity of 1.96GW off the West Sea, and received power generation business permits for Taean Offshore Wind Power in 2021, Gaeui Offshore Wind Power (2023), and West Sea Offshore Wind Power (2024). It was selected as the target site for a public-led large-scale offshore wind power support project in 2021, and a project cost of 4.35 billion won was secured.

Tours of advanced areas and resident briefing sessions to secure resident acceptance are also being promoted continuously, and the ‘Taean-gun New and Renewable Energy Development Profit Sharing Ordinance’ to share new and renewable energy development profits has been promoted since last year and is scheduled for deliberation by the county council in May.

Designation of an offshore wind renewable energy integration complex is also being promoted. This is designated by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy to ensure acceptance by residents and prevent reckless development. Local governments that are proactively pursuing new and renewable energy power generation projects exceeding 40 MW can apply and receive government subsidies when designated.

The county is continuing consultations with residents and related organizations, including forming a public-private council for designation, and plans to submit an application for designation of an integrated complex to the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy in October of this year. The financial resources secured upon designation will be used for welfare projects for local communities and residents.

In addition, the county plans to supply city gas to Bangye-ri, Wonbuk-myeon by burying city gas pipes with a total length of 10.5 km in parallel with the construction of the expansion and paving of Local Road No. The policy is to make every effort to realize energy welfare for residents, including by distributing new and renewable energy facilities.

Kim Eun-bae, head of the Future Energy Division, said, “We will minimize the local economic downturn by quickly responding to government policies such as reducing coal-fired power generation and converting to new and renewable energy.” “As the ‘complex’ designation is essential, we will definitely achieve this and create a better tomorrow for the residents,” he said.
