The Secretariat of the Environment (Sedema) of Mexico City applied 196 sanctions to motorists during the application of Phase I of Environmental Contingency decreed in the Valley of Mexico.
On April 30, the Megalopolis Environmental Commission (CAMe) activated Phase I of Environmental Contingency in the Metropolitan Area of the Valley of Mexico by registering maximum ozone concentrations of 158 ppb, at the Tlalnepantla monitoring station, State of Mexico, which remained until 5:00 p.m. on May 1.

As part of the restrictive measures to mitigate pollutants, the Hoy No Circula Environmental Program was activated, vehicles with red stickers, as well as private use cars with hologram 2 and cars with hologram 1 whose last numerical digit is 1, 3, 4, 5, 7 and 9, suspended their circulation.

However, this measure was not taken into account by some residents of the capital, so Sedema reported that it applied 196 sanctions, 194 of them for not respecting the Environmental Program. Today does not circulatewhile the remaining two were emitted to vehicles because they were clearly polluting.

Likewise, Sedema pointed out that the Hoy No Circula, Mandatory Vehicle Verification programs, the Environmental Law on Land Protection in Mexico City and its Regulations on Vehicle Verification, establish economic sanctions for those who fail to comply with them.

Meanwhile, the Secretariat of Comprehensive Risk Management and Civil Protection (SGIRPC) warned that high temperatures contribute to the increase in Ozone, which is why up to eight contingencies were predicted in the capital during this season. / Angel Ortiz
