“There are still a few weeks left,” said the director general of Pemex about the start date of operations from the refinery Dos Bocas.

After presenting an extensive report on the financial situation, production, fight against corruption and projections, the official failed to present a start date for the operations of the refinery built in this six-year term.

“Two mouths from a construction point of view, it is completely built, there are the 18 plants that make up the refinery. We are in the process of testing each and every one of the plants, but it is a process where it is tested first with air, then with nitrogen and then it is tested with hydrocarbons before being able to integrate them into the other plants, each and every one of the plants. Plants have to be tested in this way.

“Evidently, there are thousands of components, there is always a missing screw that was not fully tightened, there is always a missing piece (sic), all the tests are given to guarantee,” Romero explained.

He added that this month tests will begin at the diesel plant with an intermediate liquid from the Madero refinery, “something like a crude diesel with a lot of sulfur” to convert it into ultra-low sulfur diesel, but it will allow the facilities to be tested and begin already with the production of this hydrocarbon.

“The most important thing is that we are going to test this plant, it will be the first, in fact today we should already be starting with the first ultra-low sulfur barrels produced.

“In the coming weeks we are going to enter with regular gasoline and later with magna gasoline. We still have a few weeks left, today we are going to start the production of ultra sulfur garlic,” Romero noted.

In January, López Obrador assured that the oil installation would begin on February 28 with operations at full capacity; The complex was inaugurated on July 1, 2022.

Then, in March again, the president gave a new date for one of his flagship works to operate and established that it would be last April when it would be operating, which did not happen either.

This morning, the president assured that there is no failure, but that his adversaries have lied and “there has been talk that the costs of the Dos Bocas refinery are very high.”
