India and Indonesia agree to improve defense collaboration

During the seventh meeting of the Joint Cooperation Committee, the Secretary of Defense, Giridhar Aramane, and the Secretary General of that portfolio of Indonesia, Donny Ermawan Taufanto, identified means to promote the existing areas of collaboration in the aforementioned branches, according to a official source.

They also expressed satisfaction at the growing scope of the linkages and reviewed the progress of several initiatives planned at meetings of the Working Groups on Defense Cooperation and related to their industries.

During the visit to India, the Secretary General of the Indonesian Ministry of Defense visited the New Delhi headquarters of Defense Research and Development Organization as well as the facilities of TATA Advanced Systems and L&T Defense in Pune.

He also spoke with Indian partners such as Bharat Forge, Mahindra Defense and Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited, about actions to improve their country’s industrial capabilities through joint research and production.

Similarly, he spoke with the Chief of the Defense Staff, General Anil Chauhan.

Among his other activities, Taufanto laid a wreath in front of the National War Memorial in New Delhi.

For New Delhi, India and Indonesia have a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and have reached a shared vision of the Indo-Pacific.

Today, this partnership is characterized by close cooperation at bilateral and multilateral levels, including frequent high-level interactions, confirmed the Indian Ministry of Defence.
