Discussing the development of Libyan-Maltese relations and increasing the volume of trade and investment

The Minister of Economy and Trade, Mohammed Al-Hawaij, together with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Affairs and Trade, Ian Borg, and the Maltese Minister of Economy, Silvio Schembri, discussed the mechanism for developing bilateral relations between the two countries to raise the volume of trade exchange and strategic investments through joint cooperation.

The Ministry of Economy stated in a statement on its Facebook page that the two sides discussed aspects of cooperation, reviewing concluded agreements and memorandums of understanding, forming joint cooperation committees, reviving the Libyan-Maltese Higher Committee, which has been suspended since 2013, and resolving the problems and obstacles facing Maltese companies to return to work in the State of Libya and resume their work. Al-Hawaij pointed out the need to develop relations between banking institutions and insurance companies, facilitate shipping movement, open a direct sea line between the two countries, facilitate visa procedures for Libyans, and benefit from Maltese expertise to develop economic and trade relations between the two countries.

The Minister of Economy and Trade extended an invitation to the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs and Trade and the Minister of Economy of Malta to visit the State of Libya, and to invite Maltese companies to participate in the Tripoli International Fair in its 50th session, which is scheduled to be held during the month of May 2024.

The meeting was attended by the Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of Libya to the Republic of Malta, Suhail Al-Triki, the Minister’s Advisor, Shadhar Al-Sayd, the heads of the Board of Directors of the General Authority for Investment Promotion and Privatization Affairs, Abdulaziz Al-Shawish, the General Authority for Exhibitions, Issam Al-Awl, the Deputy Director General of the Insurance Supervision Authority, Al-Taher Al-Badawi, and the Director of the International Cooperation Department at the Ministry.
