The most exported species include roses, carnations, chrysanthemums, hydrangeas and astromelias, standing out for their quality and variety. In 2023, flower exports reached a record US$2.08 billion, surpassing the previous year’s figures, driven by growing international demand.
To satisfy demand during this season, the Colombian flower sector creates 27,000 temporary jobs, complementing the 200,000 direct and indirect jobs that already exist. Additionally, 300 additional cargo flights are scheduled to transport the flowers to international destinations.
Although red roses continue to be the most popular, other species such as carnations, chrysanthemums and hydrangeas are gaining ground, showing the diversity and versatility of the Colombian floral offer. However, one of the key challenges for exporters is ensuring the quality and timeliness of deliveries, especially on special dates such as Mother’s Day.
