Srinagar: National Conference President Refuses to Celebrate Repeal of Article 370
August 8, 2024 – National Conference President Farooq Abdullah has downplayed the significance of the repeal of Article 370, stating that it was a significant moment for his party rather than the country as a whole. He also expressed skepticism about Prime Minister Modi’s claims regarding its positive impact on Jammu and Kashmir.
Abdullah referenced the recent incidents of water leakage in the new Parliament building and the Ram temple in Ayodhya, suggesting that these developments reflect a focus on political posturing rather than genuine progress. He argued that despite the repeal of Article 370, fundamental issues like unemployment, economic hardship, and bureaucratic mismanagement persist.
The former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister criticized the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) for their role in pushing for the repeal of Article 370, claiming that it was their agenda from the beginning. He questioned the sudden change in governance and the lack of local involvement in decision-making.
