Jeonbuk Province Takes Action to Mitigate Heat Wave Impact
The Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province in South Korea has taken several measures to address the ongoing heat wave, providing additional support and resources to its residents.
Emergency Measures and Cooling Support
In response to the heavy rainfall from July 8-10, the province declared additional cities and counties as special disaster areas. To combat the soaring temperatures, they:
Opened all heat shelters in the province.
Provided an additional 100,000 won in cooling costs for heat shelters.
Distributed free bottled water in high-population areas.
Heat Relief and Prevention
To prevent heat-related illnesses, the province has:
Installed “Conscience Refrigerators” in crowded areas.
Provided iced bottled water in 93 locations.
Strengthening Support for Vulnerable Groups
Jeonbuk Province is prioritizing the safety of vulnerable groups by:
Utilizing disaster relief workers for regular visits and consultations with recipients of basic livelihood security, elderly people living alone, and the disabled.
* Deploying 837 water trucks to sprinkle water on 14,165 km of roads.
Continuous Efforts and Public Guidance
The province continues to operate 1,534 heat wave reduction facilities and 40 parasol rental stations. They are also actively disseminating information through various channels, including electronic bulletin boards, village broadcasts, and disaster text messages, to educate residents on heat wave preparedness.

Jeonbuk Province Governor Kim Kwan-young emphasized the importance of staying indoors and following safety guidelines during the heat wave. He encouraged residents to prioritize their safety and work collaboratively to minimize the impact of the heat.
