Telkomsel Aims to Expand 5G Network in Indonesia, Avoiding Thailand’s Pace

Telkomsel, a major Indonesian telecommunications company, has announced its plans to expand its 5G network beyond Jakarta, reaching cities like Bogor, Tangerang, and Bekasi. This move comes as the company aims to ensure equitable access to this advanced technology for all levels of society.
During his presentation at the 2024 Telkomsel Media Gathering event in South Jakarta, Telkomsel President Director Nugroho highlighted the importance of expanding the 5G network reach to underserved areas. He stated, “Because in Jakarta, we also want to hold a large-scale 5G in Jabotabek inner and Jabotabek outer. We want the experience to be felt by the community.”
Nugroho also drew a comparison between Indonesia and Thailand in terms of 5G network coverage. He pointed out that while Thailand has a significantly higher 5G penetration rate, reaching 86% of the country, Indonesia still has room for growth.
