The first statement emerged following the resignation of former Prime Minister <a href="https://time.news/bangladesh-model-of-democratic-collapse-madhyamam/" title="Bangladesh model of democratic collapse | Madhyamam”>Hasina Wajid, who sought refuge in India amidst student protests in Bangladesh. According to Indian media reports, Sheikh Hasina Wajid blamed the United States for the end of her 15-year rule, alleging that their request to establish an airbase on St. Martin Island was the reason for her downfall. She claimed that she refused to relinquish control of the island, despite pressure from the US.
Her speech, which was initially prohibited, was later disseminated by DTV news outlet. In it, Sheikh Hasina accused the US of orchestrating a change in Bangladesh through student protests and alleged plans to merge parts of Myanmar to create a “Christian country.” She denied labeling the protesters as extremists, claiming her words were misinterpreted. She also defended her decision to resign, suggesting that it was necessary to prevent further bloodshed.
