Police in Taiwan have detained a woman from a polling station in the city of Kaohsiung, because her 6-year-old child carelessly damaged the ballot paper for the election of the island’s head of administration. This was reported by the Central News Agency of Taiwan.
It is noted that the incident took place in the morning, the police received a report that one of the citizens came to the polling station with a 5-6 year old child for elections. The child was mischievous and carelessly tore the ballot paper in his mother’s hand. When the 26-year-old woman arrived at the polling station, she told the police that the child was with her with the consent of the polling station staff, she did not tear the ballot on purpose, she was just mischievous and pulled it, and the ballot was not torn, it was damaged.
After receiving an explanation, the police took the 26-year-old woman and her 5-6-year-old daughter to the department to find out the circumstances of the incident in more detail on the spot. The police also reported the information about the incident to the prosecutor’s office and the central election commission.
It should be noted that before the elections, the CEC of Taiwan informed the population that violations during the election process will be punished with significant fines. In particular, a fine of 5 to 50,000 New Taiwan Dollars is set for damaging the ballot paper.
