Announcement of the name of the film advisory committee

The National Advisory Committee on Films has been reconstituted for the purpose of providing various suggestions to the government on film and for the development of films. This information was informed in a notification signed by Deputy Secretary Saiful Islam of Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on Wednesday (October 2).

The list of 23 members has been published in the notification. Among them, Information Advisor is the President and Additional Secretary (Films) Ministry of Information is the Member Secretary.

The members of the committee are the Secretary of the Public Security Department of the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Secretary of the Ministry of Industry, the Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce, the Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, the Secretary of the Law and Justice Department, the Secretary of the Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Department, the Managing Director of FDC, the Chief Executive of Film and Television Institute, the Director General of Film Archive, Vice Chairman of Certification Board.

There will also be one member each from FBCI, Film Directors Association, Producers and Distributors Association, Exhibitors Association.

Others who are staying as members are – Rajshahi University Professor of Mass Communication and Journalism A Al Mamun, Filmmaker and Producer Arifur Rahman, Filmmaker and Producer Tanim Noor, Chief Content Officer of Banga App Mushfiqur Rahman, Journalist and Film Critic Sadia Khalid Riti, Film Parliament worker, critic and producer Ahmed Salekin.

The notification about the work of the committee has said, reviewing the existing policies, laws and regulations related to films, and providing recommendations on the need for changes, amendments and revisions of these laws, policies and regulations or if new laws, policies and regulations are required.

According to the information in the notification, this committee will start working very soon. And their work will be to provide advice and recommendations on various matters to be done for the development of the film industry in the light of the film policy. Providing advice to the government and related parties regarding the implementation of various issues described in the film policy.

Following and observing various activities related to film in the country and abroad, giving recommendations about measures to be taken for the development of national films in the light of experience in those activities. If there is a need for addition, amendment and modification of the film policy, the members of the committee will also give recommendations in that regard. The Committee shall meet at least twice a year.

Meanwhile, after the announcement of this committee, producer Khizir Hayat Khan, one of the members of the certification board, said in his response, ‘I say with due respect to the bureaucrats, the presence of government bureaucrats in the number of film committees being formed in new Bangladesh is an extreme obstacle for the development of our films. There is no such precedent in any film-friendly country in the world.

It needs to be said that the recently formed committees show that the bureaucratic side of the government occupies more than half of the space as before. Many people are expressing discomfort about this matter.
