Yesterday, the US Pentagon announced the arrival in Israel of a team of American experts and the initial elements needed to operate the THAAD air defense missile battery for the Israeli army.
A statement by the US Department of Defense said: “In the coming days, additional American military personnel and components of the THAAD battery will continue to arrive in Israel.”
The Pentagon confirmed that the THAAD battery will be able to operate at full capacity in the near future, explaining that “for security reasons related to operations, we will not discuss timetables.”
The Pentagon stressed that the deployment of the THAAD battery in Israel confirms the United States’ commitment to defending Israel and defending Americans in Israel from any ballistic missile attacks by Iran.
The Pentagon announced that Secretary Austin had directed “the deployment of the long-range air defense missile system (THAAD) and its operational crew in Israel to help strengthen the air defenses there.”
