One of the most impressive events dedicated to the 90th anniversary of this creative organization was, undoubtedly, the visiting Plenum of the Union of Composers Azerbaijan in the cultural capital of the Islamic world – in the city Shusha. An expanded composition of the organization’s board (40 people) headed by the Chairman of the Union of People’s Artist – F. Alizade and the secretary of the board – Honored Artist – Z. Kafarova, People’s Artists – S. Farajev and A. Samedzade, famous composers and musicologists visited on October 14-15 the cultural capital of the Islamic world – the city of Shusha, where they discussed pressing issues of the organization, and also outlined new ways for the development of the musical process in Azerbaijan.
As Day.Az reports, the plenum began its work with the demonstration of a video clip “Victory march” F.Alizadeh performed by a symphony orchestra under the direction of People’s Artist F. Kerimov and a joint male choir. The patriotic spirit of the work evoked an enthusiastic reception from the audience and set the tone for the entire event.
The Special Representative of the President of Azerbaijan in Shusha, Aydin Kerimov, addressed the members of the delegation with an opening speech. Having greeted the participants of the Plenum, A. Kerimov spoke about the grandiose work to restore this beautiful region, about the enthusiasm with which all participants in this epoch-making event are tirelessly working. The Special Representative’s report was listened to with great attention and joy, the speech was repeatedly interrupted by applause, because beautiful pictures of a new life, new interesting meetings and discoveries opened before the eyes of the listeners.
Then the Chairman of the UK, F. Alizadeh, spoke, thanking for the warm welcome, she spoke about the history of the creative Union, about the inextricable connection of this glorious history with people from Karabakh, led by the brilliant composers and the founder of the Union of Composers back in 1934, Uzeyir Hajibeyli.
People’s Artist-Composer S. Faradzhev, Honored Artists G. Abdullazadeh, Kh. Babaeva, G. Ismailova spoke about different areas of work of the Union of Composers of the country.
The culmination of the morning meeting was the presentation of the new work of the honored worker of art, doctor of art history – Saadet Tahmiraz kyzy. Her new book is dedicated to the topic of Shushi in professional music of Azerbaijan. Here is detailed information about the works of Azerbaijani composers dedicated to this beautiful land, which has always been and remains a source of inspiration not only for the luminaries of our professional music, such as Seyid Rustamov, Suleyman Alesgarov, Vasif Adigezalov, Emin Sabitoglu, Frangiz Alizade, but also modern composers – such as Sardar Farajev, Elnara Dadasheva, Javanshir Kuliyev, Elza Seyidjakhan, Turala Mammadli, Ilahi Gismet, Sevdy Mammadli and others. The new edition was received with great interest by the event participants; a desire was expressed to continue this work, including all new works.
The evening concert of the festive Plenum was decorated with a performance by the State String Quartet led by the famous violinist Nazrin Aslanli. The members of the group delighted the audience with an excellent performance of masterpieces of Azerbaijani music, including famous works by Uz. Hajibeyli, G. Garayeva, F. Amirova, F. Alizade. The concert aroused genuine interest and enthusiasm from the public, as if long-familiar music, having sounded in Shusha, acquired a new, symbolic meaning.
Therefore, it is no coincidence that after the memorable performance of the quartet, the composers present at the Plenum spontaneously continued this musical marathon, performing their new works on the piano, dedicated to Karabakh and Shusha. The performances of composers P. Akhundova, E. Seidjakhan, S. Mammadli were memorable.
The second day of the Plenum was marked by a visit to the Heydar Aliyev Center, where new publications of the Union of Composers were presented to the leadership of the Center. A special, reverent feeling was evoked among the members of the delegation by visiting the House-Museum of Uzbekistan Hajibeyli, which is still awaiting its official opening. Here, the members of the delegation were introduced to the interesting exhibits of the Museum by the Deputy Special Representative of the President in Shusha, Elshad Aliyev. A cozy mansion, surrounded by a flower garden and ancient trees, where Uzeyir Hajibeyli began his journey into great art, will undoubtedly become a place of pilgrimage for musicians from all over the world.
The Plenum concluded its work with a visit to a memorable place – the Bulbul House-Museum, where again we were able to see with our own eyes the traces of vandalism of the past war, and new life reborn from the ashes.
The members of the UK delegation returned with great impressions, which will undoubtedly lead to the emergence of new musical works, new scientific works, reflecting the inexhaustible energy and colossal creative charge of the beautiful region – the city of Shushi.
