<a href="https://time.news/mega-storm-hits-southern-russia-and-ukraine/" title="“Mega storm” hits southern Russia and Ukraine”>Ukraine‘s military intelligence service said on Thursday (24) that the first North Korean units trained in Russia were deployed to Kursk, a border region where Ukrainian forces staged a major invasion in August.
The Kremlin said reports that North Korea had sent troops to Russia were “fake news”. But President Vladimir Putin indicated this Thursday that the way in which his country will implement the partnership treaty with the North Korean government is “only up to Moscow”.
Putin has not denied that North Korean troops are in Russia.

“The first military units of the DPRK [Coreia do Norte]who trained in eastern Russia, has already arrived in the combat zone of the Russia-Ukraine war. In particular, on October 23, 2024, its presence was recorded in the Kursk region,” the Ukrainian agency claimed in a statement.
According to the agency, about 12,000 North Korean soldiers, including 50 officers and three generals, are already in Russia, and training is taking place at five military bases.
Ukraine has called on its allies to respond firmly to North Korea’s involvement in the war by imposing new sanctions and further isolating Pyongyang.
On Wednesday (23), the United States said it had evidence that North Korea had sent 3,000 soldiers to Russia, with possible deployment in Ukraine.
Ties between Russia and North Korea intensified after the start of the war in Ukraine in February 2022. The two sides signed a broad strategic partnership agreement in June.
