BENGALURU: The body of Indian student Naveen Sekharappa, who was killed in a shelling attack in Ukraine, will be flown home on Sunday. Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bomme made the announcement. Naveen’s body will arrive at the Bangalore airport at 3 pm.

Naveen’s father Sekharappa Jnanagouda had asked the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister to bring back his son’s body for burial. The central government then held talks with Ukrainian officials. The body is currently being kept at the Kharkov Medical University.

Naveen, 21, hails from Chalageri in Haveri district of Karnataka. She is a fourth year MBBS student at the Kharkov Medical University in Ukraine. On March 1, a young man was killed in a Russian shelling while queuing to buy food.
