Six weeks after Russia’s offensive in Ukraine, the number of refugees fleeing Ukraine has risen to 40 million, according to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). Russia has been carrying out missile strikes in the capital, Kiev, Kharkiv, Mariupol, Kherson, Sumi and Lviv for the past six weeks.

Large buildings, apartments, hospitals, schools and educational institutions were damaged and crumbled. The people of that country are taking refuge in neighboring countries to protect themselves from the onslaught of war. They are taking refuge in neighboring countries, including Poland, Romania and Hungary. As Russia’s war on Ukraine continues for more than a month, 136 children have been killed so far in the war. Russian forces continue to try to capture the capital, Kiev. The war has also caused great casualties on both Ukraine and Russia.

Russia has said it will withdraw troops from Kiev during the third round of talks between Ukraine and Russia over a ceasefire. Meanwhile, Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister Irina Verschuk has warned that Russian troops’ attack on the Chernobyl reactor could lead to an explosion in the reactor and that Russian forces should withdraw immediately.

In this context, the head of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) visited Ukraine to inspect the heavily attacked city of Lviv and hold talks with officials. He further added that the decision was taken to increase the support of the United Nations and our allies for the people affected and displaced by the war.

In addition, the International Organization for Refugees (UNHCR) has provided assistance to more than 2 lakh people in Ukraine. It also said that 2.3 million people had migrated from Ukraine to Poland and many thousands to other countries, including Romania and Hungary.
