As the war on Ukraine continues, a referendum is set to take place today at the United Nations on Russia’s removal from the UN Human Rights Council.

Western nations have demanded that Russia be expelled from the Human Rights Council following reports that Russian troops have massacred innocent people in the Ukrainian city of Pucha. The UN General Assembly is set to vote today on Russia’s removal from the 47 – member UN Human Rights Council.

India is expected to remain neutral in the referendum. With its friendship with Russia, it is said that India will abstain from participating in the referendum proposed by the United States.

Russia’s ambassador to New York Vasily Nebansya has said that removing Russia from the Human Rights Council could jeopardize peace talks. Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Zhelensky has said that the UN is reluctant to take drastic action against Russia.
