Despite falling short at the first three majors this year, Aryna Sabalenka is having a dominant season, backed by impressive numbers.
World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka has reached a monumental 12,420 points in the PIF WTA Rankings. This is the first time since 2015 that a player has crossed the 12,000-point threshold. Serena Williams was the last player to achieve this, amassing 12,721 points at the US Open that year.
Sabalenka’s current lead over World No. 2 Coco Gauff (7,669 points) stands at a significant 4,751 points. This marks the largest gap between the top two ranked players in nearly two-and-a-half years. In February 2023, Iga Swiatek held a 4,800-point advantage over Sabalenka.
Swiatek, ranked No. 3 with 6,813 points, came close to the 12,000 mark last year, peaking at 11,695 points.
Sabalenka’s consistency is undeniable, with 10 Grand Slam semifinals in her last 11 major appearances. This season, she boasts an outstanding 47-9 record, having played 56 matches – more than any other player in the Top 50. She has secured three titles this year in Brisbane, Miami, and Madrid.
Earlier this month, the 27-year-old became the first player to qualify for the 2025 WTA Finals Riyadh presented by PIF.
Sabalenka withdrew from the Omnium Banque Nationale WTA 1000 in Montreal, citing fatigue. She is scheduled to compete at the Cincinnati Open the following week, where she is the defending champion. Many consider her a favorite for the US Open, which she won for the first time last year in Flushing Meadows, defeating Jessica Pegula 7-5, 7-5 in the final.
