SV Obergriesbach Expands with Table Tennis Department Integration
A significant development for local sports: the table tennis department has officially become an integral part of SV Obergriesbach, strengthening community ties and expanding athletic opportunities. The move consolidates a program that has thrived in Obergriesbach since 1996, previously operating as a subsection of the TCO tennis club.
Since its inception, table tennis has been a popular activity in Obergriesbach. For over two decades, players have honed their skills under the TCO umbrella. Now, the sport gains a new home within the broader framework of SV Obergriesbach, a change lauded by department leadership. “The change strengthens our structures and connects us even closer to the sporting life in the village,” a senior official stated.
A New Season and Growing Participation
The newly integrated department is poised for a dynamic season. For the first time, SV Obergriesbach will field three teams in competitive play. Alongside the competitive teams, a robust contingent of recreational players will also participate, demonstrating the widespread appeal of the sport. Regular training sessions are scheduled on Mondays at 6:30 p.m., with additional sessions on Thursdays when not conflicting with home matches.
Innovative Program Addresses Parkinson’s Disease
Beyond traditional play, SV Obergriesbach is demonstrating a commitment to inclusive sports programs. A key focus is the Pingpongparkinson Group (PPP), designed to provide accessible athletic opportunities for individuals living with Parkinson’s disease. In collaboration with the nationally recognized Pingpongparkinson e. V., the program aims to combat social isolation and promote physical activity. “Table tennis can have a positive impact on the course of the disease. We experience this every week,” explained a licensed trainer involved with the program.
Investing in the Future of the Club
SV Obergriesbach is also prioritizing youth development. Starting this autumn, and integrated with the local holiday program, a new training initiative will be launched for children and young people. “We look forward to new talents and hope for lively participation,” said a youth leader. The arrival of new jerseys, emblazoned with the colors of SV Obergriesbach, symbolizes this renewed commitment to the future. Interested individuals of all ages are encouraged to attend training sessions and experience the sport firsthand.
