Suspect Dead, 2 Officers Injured in Springfield Police Shooting

SPRINGFIELD, Oregon — A man is dead after a confrontation with law enforcement that left two Springfield police officers injured on Wednesday afternoon. The officers remain hospitalized.

Officers were dispatched around 2:37 p.m. to a report of a “disorderly” person at a car wash near Gateway Street and Beltline Road. Authorities attempted to make contact with the suspect in the Gateway Street and Kruse Way area. The suspect then displayed two knives and threatened the officer.

During the ensuing struggle, the suspect allegedly stabbed two Springfield officers. They were transported to a local hospital for significant injuries. Their current conditions are unknown.

Oregon State Police troopers arrived to assist Springfield officers. The suspect’s arrest led to them being shot by law enforcement. It remains unclear if a Springfield officer or an Oregon State Police trooper fired the fatal shots.

Despite life-saving efforts, the suspect succumbed to their injuries, according to the Springfield Police Department.

The identities of the suspect, the stabbed officers, and the officer or officers involved in the shooting have not been released.

Gateway Street remains closed near its intersection with Beltline.
