A Michigan couple has been charged with murder and torture in connection with the death of their pregnant daughter, whose remains were discovered in a forest three weeks after she disappeared. Authorities allege that Cortney Bartholomew, 40, and Brad Bartholomew, 47, are responsible for the death of Rebecca Park, 22, who was in the final stages of her pregnancy when she was last seen on November 3rd.

During a court appearance Tuesday, Prosecutor Johanna Carey detailed the horrific circumstances surrounding Park’s death. According to Carey, the Bartholomews lured Park to their home before forcibly taking her to a wooded area where she was stabbed. The prosecutor further alleged that the couple then cut the baby out of her while she was still alive, ultimately causing both her and the unborn child’s death.
“This is, frankly, evil personified,” Carey stated in court. The Bartholomews appeared via video link from jail and were denied bond.

The case is further complicated by the family’s history. While Cortney Bartholomew is Park’s biological mother, Park was raised by an adoptive family alongside her siblings. This detail adds another layer of tragedy to an already devastating situation.
Park’s adoptive mother, Stephanie Park, shared her grief with CBS affiliate 9&10 News, saying, “She deserves to be remembered as the sweet girl that she was when she was younger.”

The news of Park’s death has ignited a wave of emotion in the community. Dozens of people, including those who participated in the search for Park, filled the courtroom Tuesday.
