Quebec Launches Revamped Online Platform to Amplify Voices of People Living with HIV
On the occasion of World AIDS Day 2025, the COCQ-SIDA association is unveiling a significantly redesigned version of its “Je suis seropo†website, establishing a crucial digital hub for details and self-expression for individuals living with HIV in Quebec.
The newly launched platform aims to address a critical gap in public discourse, ensuring the perspectives of those directly affected by the disease are not only heard but prioritized.
Born from a need to combat stigma and raise awareness, “je suis seropo†initially launched in 2011 as a platform for sharing personal stories. The original site featured fourteen video testimonies, offering a human-centered approach to understanding life with HIV and challenging prevailing prejudices. It also served as a blog where people living with HIV and their allies coudl connect and share experiences.
A major overhaul, undertaken between 2024 and 2025, was directly guided by the needs of the HIV-positive community. A dedicated advisory committee, named “Positive Word,†was formed, and an extensive survey was conducted to pinpoint key priorities. These consultations resulted in four core objectives for the redesigned site: centering the experiences of people living with HIV,providing reliable and quebec-specific information, fostering a safe space for expression — both anonymous and identified — and creating a modern, inclusive, and sustainable digital presence.
The revamped “Je suis seropo†now boasts ten informative sections, developed in collaboration with Club Sexu, covering the medical, social, and legal aspects of living with HIV. A notably impactful addition is the “Shared Stories†section, which allows individuals to submit their testimonies through a streamlined form. These stories are presented in a dynamic, non-hierarchical grid, emphasizing the equal value and diversity of every journey.
Adding a poignant layer to the relaunch, COCQ-SIDA invited spokespersons from the original 2012-2013 campaign to revisit their initial video contributions. Five individuals — identified as Bruno, Donald, Jacques, Ken, and Yves — participated in this emotional and symbolic process, sharing updated capsules that reflect their personal evolution and the changing societal landscape surrounding HIV.
“public discourse on HIV too often omits the perspective of people living with the disease, which leaves room for prejudice and misinformation,†a senior official stated. The new site directly confronts this issue by prioritizing the voices of those affected, offering a platform where their experiences are central, valued, and readily accessible.Support for individuals wishing to share their stories is also readily available.
With this initiative, COCQ-SIDA reaffirms its commitment to supporting community organizations and all individuals impacted by HIV in Quebec. by providing a trusted source of information and a secure space for expression, the organization aims to foster a more informed, compassionate, and supportive society.
