Political commentator Ana Navarro revealed she is barred from entering her native Nicaragua due to her outspokenness on social media,a situation she contrasted with former President Donald Trump’s recent proposal to screen the social media of foreign visitors. The revelation came during Friday’s episode of The View, where Navarro discussed the implications of the proposed policy.
During the show’s “Hot Topics” segment, the conversation turned to Trump’s plan to require tourists to submit five years of social media data before entering the U.S. After co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin questioned the practicality of reviewing such a vast amount of details, Navarro quipped that even a brief scan of her own online activity would likely result in a lifetime ban. Host Joy Behar then jokingly asked if Navarro was already prohibited from entering the U.S., prompting Navarro to share her personal experience with censorship.
“No, I’m banned from entering Nicaragua, which is a dictatorship, for the same reason,” Navarro stated, referencing the Nicaraguan government’s suppression of dissent. She then drew a distinction between the two situations, highlighting the scope of Trump’s proposal. “To me, there’s a critical difference. They’re asking for access to five years of social media. To my shock, this is actually for countries in the visa waiver program, where people don’t need a visa to come to the United States.”
Navarro expressed particular concern that Trump’s policy appears to target citizens of specific nations.”I was shocked to see that Trump is seeking social media activity from people in ‘white countries,’ like the Netherlands, Australia, and Belgium,” she said. she further noted a pattern in previous immigration enforcement efforts, stating, “Usually when he’s banning people from this country, it’s Black and brown people he’s banning,” referencing increased immigration arrests and raids conducted by ICE.
Navarro previously shared her inability to visit Nicaragua following the death of her mother, Violetta, in 2021.In an Instagram post at the time, she explained that the nicaraguan government had denied entry to media and imprisoned critics, leading her parents to advise against travel for her own safety.
Beyond the discussion of travel restrictions, Navarro continued her critique of Trump during Monday’s episode of The View, mocking the recent decision by FIFA to award him a newly created “peace prize” at the 2026 World Cup draw. She quipped that FIFA President Gianni Infantino had discovered a universal truth: “If you show up with a tchotchke, preferably covered in gold, and give it to the three-year-old in the Oval Office, he will be entertained and he will be happy.”
In a playful gesture, Navarro then presented each of her co-hosts with a gold medal on a chain, invoking Oprah Winfrey’s famous “you get a car” moment with the phrase, “You get a medal, and you get a medal.”
