A post-race investigation has revealed a series of incidents impacting several horses during a recent event, leading to a required barrier trial and veterinary examination for one competitor. Stewards have also issued reprimands to jockeys and noted several horses undergoing routine post-race sampling.
Multiple Horses involved in Early Race Contact
The race saw immediate action with several horses experiencing contact shortly after the start. MAGIC COSMOS (J411), ridden by R. Kingscote, was reportedly “bumped shortly after the start,” and later made contact with LEATHER MASTER while navigating a turn near the 500-meter mark. Similarly, CARRYON SMILING (J392) and WAH MAY WAI WAI (J193) were also involved in early collisions.
MAGIC COSMOS Faces Further Scrutiny
The performance of MAGIC COSMOS was deemed “unacceptable” by stewards, as the horse finished the race tailed out. As a result, the horse will be required to “perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination” before being permitted to race again. A preliminary veterinary inspection following the race did not reveal any notable findings.
Jockey explanations and Tactical Decisions
several jockeys were questioned regarding their riding tactics during the race. Apprentice E.C. Wong, riding SUPER SICARIO (K306), explained that despite instructions to move forward, he opted for a trailing position behind WAH MAY WAI WAI due to the early pace being slower than anticipated. He further stated that he adjusted his position to avoid WAH MAY WAI WAI when the pace slowed near the 1000-meter mark,acknowledging his mount finished “in a one-paced manner” after being briefly held up. The stewards, while acknowledging Wong’s explanation, suggested he might have benefited from maintaining a position to the outside of WAH MAY WAI WAI.
Reprimand for Jockey Badel
Jockey A. Badel, aboard ROMANTIC FANTASY (H168), received a reprimand for shifting in and crowding LEATHER MASTER.Stewards advised Badel to “ensure that he leaves sufficient room for runners to his inside.”

Several horses were selected for post-race sampling, including STORM RUNNER (J452), ROMANTIC FANTASY (H168), BEAUTY MISSILE (H123). Orman, riding PERPETUAL POWER (J326), stated his instructions were to secure a forward position, but the horse jumped slowly and settled further back than intended. M.L. Yeung, aboard WAH MAY WAI WAI (J193), acknowledged his mount’s poor performance in the home straight but offered no specific explanation. K.Teetan, riding GOLD TACK (H106), reported his horse lacked early pace and was hampered by contact with WAH MAY WAI WAI.
