Central Florida’s Bellowing Acres, a 40-acre animal sanctuary, recently received a visit from pawsitive Beginnings founder Nicole Navarro, sparking a complex emotional response from her fox, Reef.
A Sanctuary Visit and One Fox’s Disapproval
The unexpected trip to a rescue facility housing over 250 animals prompted a surprisingly candid assessment from a very opinionated resident.
- Bellowing Acres provides a home for rescued animals, including coatimundis, crocodiles, alligators, emus, foxes, and skunks.
- Navarro’s visit was motivated by a desire to support the sanctuary’s work in caring for animals from abusive or neglectful situations.
- Reef, the resident fox, expressed strong disapproval of his mother’s excursion, citing a betrayal of their carefully curated enclosure.
- The sanctuary relies on compassion, commitment, and relentless daily work to provide care for its residents.
Last week, Navarro traveled to Central Florida to visit friends at Bellowing Acres, a facility she enthusiastically described as possessing “actual acreage†—forty acres, to be exact. The sanctuary is home to more than 250 rescued animals, each saved from abuse, neglect, or untenable living situations. The diverse population includes not only common farm animals like goats and chickens, but also more exotic species such as coatimundis, crocodiles, alligators, emus, foxes, and skunks, with “so much more†according to Navarro.
What is the purpose of Bellowing Acres? The sanctuary exists not for attention, but for responsibility, sacrifice and relentless daily work, providing a haven for animals others have failed.
While acknowledging the importance of rescue work, Reef expressed a distinct lack of enthusiasm for his mother’s adventure. Upon her return, Navarro carried a scent that was, to Reef, a clear indication of “betrayal of the highest kind†—a complex aroma of emu dust, swampy earth, and what Reef perceived as moral superiority. The smell, he noted, was definitively *not* the scent of a routine grocery run.
Navarro reportedly spoke at length about the scale of Bellowing Acres’ operation, the dedication of its staff, and the inspiring nature of providing second chances to animals in need. Reef recalled hearing phrases like “unbelievable work†and “true sanctuary,†culminating in the especially offensive suggestion that “You would have loved it, Reef.â€
Despite his initial indignation, Reef conceded that Bellowing acres embodies the positive outcomes of compassion and commitment, representing a space where individuals step up to care for animals that have been let down by others. He stated he respects that deeply and professionally.
