BEIJING, September 26, 2025 – Apple’s iPhone Air isn’t living up to expectations, and the fallout is hitting consumers in China particularly hard as retailers slash prices on the recently released device.
Discounts Spark Outrage Among Recent Buyers
The iPhone Air, unveiled in September 2025, is now being offered at significant discounts in China, leaving some customers feeling cheated.
- major vendors in China are attempting to clear stock through substantial price reductions.
- Discounts reach up to 2,500 yuan (~$360) off the original price.
- Recent buyers are demanding refunds after finding the phone cheaper just hours after purchase.
The iPhone Air, intended to be a lightweight and accessible entry into the Apple ecosystem, hasn’t resonated with consumers as hoped. In China, the situation has escalated, with major vendors attempting to clear stock through substantial price reductions. Reports indicate some stores are offering the iPhone Air for as little as 2,000 yuan (approximately $290) or even 2,500 yuan (~$360) less than the original price. These discounts quickly led to the phone selling out on some platforms.

While bargain hunters are thrilled, those who recently purchased the iPhone Air at full price are understandably upset. One individual shared a particularly frustrating experience: they bought the phone just hours before the discounts were announced. Unfortunately, becuase the device had already been activated, the store refused a return or refund.
The customer explained that purchases made directly from an official Apple Store typically qualify for a 14-day, no-questions-asked refund policy. Though, due to traffic congestion, visiting the nearest official store was deemed too arduous, leading them to purchase from an Apple-authorized retailer.
Reports indicate that othre Apple owners in China share this dissatisfaction, with some demanding refunds to compensate for the financial loss. The situation highlights the risks of purchasing electronics shortly after release, especially in a volatile market.
A Volatile Market for Apple’s Flagship
The iPhone Air has managed to achieve something few flagships desire: disappointing their early adopters. While deep discounts may clear inventory, they simultaneously leave recent purchasers questioning their spending. The market remains unpredictable, and a return to stability isn’t expected anytime soon-certainly not in 2026.
